OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington legislators are getting another update on tax collections from the state’s chief economist.
The new revenue forecast will help determine the next steps in balancing the state budget.
A special legislative session could be on the agenda for December if there’s a big drop in tax collections. But a less drastic change will set the table for Gov. Chris Gregoire’s proposed state budget plans.
Gregoire ordered spending cuts this fall to deal with a $520 million deficit in the current budget. And the next two-year budget is already facing a $4.8 billion shortfall, about 15 percent of the state general fund.
