LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Evan Gordon scored 14 points and Liberty romped to an 82-49 victory over Southern Virginia Thursday night.

The Flames (2-2) broke the game open in the second half, scoring 27 unanswered points to turn a game that was already slipping away from the Knights (1-3) into a no-doubt laugher. Ed Greenhalgh, Southern Virginia’s leading scorer with 11 points, ended the spurt with a layup that cut Liberty’s lead to 41 points (72-31).

David Minaya (13 points), John Caleb Sanders (12), John Brown (11) and Jesse Sanders (10) also scored in double figures for Liberty.

An early 12-0 run gave Liberty control in the first half. The Flames maintained it by shooting 46.2 percent from the floor (12 of 26) compared to Southern Virginia’s 28.6 percent (6 of 21). At the break, Liberty led 41-25.
