FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) — Antwan Carter scored 22 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as Longwood won its home opener, defeating NAIA’s Virginia-Wise 104-70 Thursday night.
Four other Lancers (1-2) also scored in double figures — Durann Neil with 15 points, Jan van der Kooij and Aaron Mitchell with 14 apiece and Jerimiah Bowman with 12.
Travis Berry led Virginia-Wise (0-2) with 19 points and Norris Gaskins contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Highland Cavaliers (4-1) trailed 48-33 at halftime and never threatened in the second half.
That was partly because the Lancers continued making 3-pointers — sinking 13 of 28 for the game — while Virginia-Wise struggled from the field. The Lancers outscored Virginia-Wise 56-37 in the second half and won their seventh consecutive home game, dating to last season.
