The Major Crimes Unit is continuing work in the case of two men who were shot, one near the mall-area Jaggy Road Park, on Nov. 4 — but police said they had made no arrest.

Both men survived the shootings and have been released from hospital care, Detective Wally Stefan with the Vancouver police said Thursday. Stefan declined to release the men’s names.

The shootings, which occurred in different areas, now are believed to be related, he said.

About 8:42 p.m. Nov. 4, officers were called to the Springfield Meadows apartments at 4317 N.E. 66th Ave., just north of state Highway 500 and west of Andresen Road. One shooting victim was found there, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

Officers and a tracking dog also searched nearby Jaggy Road Park, just east of Andresen and west of Westfield Vancouver mall, for two men and possible evidence. Witnesses reported hearing at least three shots at the park.

Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said it appeared the first victim had been shot near the park, then ran across Andresen to the apartment complex. He had been communicating with police when he was taken to the hospital.

About 8:52 p.m., officers radioed that a second man had shown up at Southwest Washington Medical Center with a gunshot wound. That shooting victim had been found in bushes outside the medical center after approaching a nurse and asking for help.

Officers radioed that the hospital was being secured as they sorted out what was happening.

The assailants and victims are believed to have known each other, Kapp said.

Anyone with information on the shooting are asked to call 911.
