OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington state regulators have approved electric and natural gas rate increases for eastern Washington residents.
Under the agreement reached by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission and Avista, the utility company’s customers will see a rate increase of $5.60 a month in their electric bills and $2.20 in their gas bills.
The company had requested the rate hikes to collect additional revenues of $63.8 million. State regulators capped that request at $34.1 million.
Avista serves more than 234,000 electric and nearly 147,000 natural gas customers, primarily in eastern Washington.
The new rates take effect Dec. 1.
