BEND, Ore. (AP) — The latest tally of ballots outstanding in a tight Bend City Council race has narrowed Scott Ramsay’s lead over Chuck Arnold to just two votes — and a recount is assured.

Before the latest batch of 500 votes was counted, Ramsay led by eight votes.

Deschutes County Clerk Nancy Blankenship tells KTVZ that she plans to conduct an automatic recount on Tuesday, Nov. 30, with results expected by the end of the day.

Under state law, a recount is required if the vote difference between candidates is less than one-fifth of one percent of the total number of ballots cast for the candidates.

As of Friday, Ramsay has 10,501 votes to Arnold’s 10,499.
