EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants have signed rookie tight end Jake Ballard off their practice squad for Sunday night’s game against the Eagles in Philadelphia.
To make room on the roster for Ballard, the Giants waived defensive back D.J. Johnson, who played in five games, mostly on special teams.
Ballard was added to the roster because starting tight end Kevin Boss suffered a lumbar strain last week against Dallas and missed practice Thursday. He was limited in practice on Friday.
A former Ohio State player, Ballard missed most of training camp with a hamstring injury. He was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 5.
