Miami (Ohio) holds on to beat IUPUI 59-58

OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — Julian Mavunga scored 17 points and Antonio Ballard added 14 as Miami (Ohio) held on to beat IUPUI 59-58 on Saturday night.

The RedHawks (2-1) trailed 22-21 at halftime after shooting 8 for 26 (30.8 percent), including 1 of 8 from 3-point range in the first half.

Ballard and Mavunga scored 12 points apiece in the second half as Miami shot 13 of 21 (61.9 percent) to pull in front 50-49 with 3:49 left to play.

Mavunga nailed a 3-pointer to push the Miami lead to 53-49 with less than three minutes remaining as the RedHawks led by no less than two points the rest of the way until Stephen Thomas hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to pull the Jaguars within one, 59-58.

Alex Young scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-22 (40.9 percent) shooting for IUPUI in the loss.

The Jaguars led by as many as seven, 41-34, with 10:09 left in the game.
