OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The state Republican Party has reached a settlement with Attorney General Rob McKenna over alleged campaign violations from the 2008 governor’s race.

McKenna, a Republican, announced Friday that the party was fined $25,000 under the terms of an agreement filed in King County Superior Court.

The state GOP was accused of misusing money to pay for three mailers promoting Republican Dino Rossi over Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire in the August primary election for governor in 2008. Rossi lost to Gregoire that year.

The party will be subject to an additional $10,000 in fines if there are any new campaign law violations through 2014.

Phone and e-mail messages left with the state party Friday were not immediately returned.
