Richmond defeats Charleston Southern 82-71

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Darien Brothers scored 15 points to lead four Richmond players in double figures in an 82-71 win over Charleston Southern on Sunday.

The Spiders (3-1) shot 63.8 percent from the field (30 of 47) in the Chicago Invitational game, finding the efficiency on 17 assists, compared to just 11 turnovers.

Kevin Anderson added 14 points, Justin Harper 12 and Francis-Cedric Martel 11 for Richmond, which never trailed.

The Spiders led 45-30 at halftime and 51-43 with 16:11 left to play, before the Buccaneers (2-2) brought it to 53-50 with 13:34 left. Richmond responded with 17 straight points to go up 70-50 on Josh Duinker’s 3-pointer with 9:04 remaining.

Jamarco Warren led Charleston Southern with 21 points. Jeremy Sexton added 17 and Sheldon Strickland 12 as the Buccaneers’ two-game winning streak ended.
