SEATTLE (AP) — In addition to the snow and bone-chilling cold hitting Western Washington, thousands of customers have lost power, mainly because of windy conditions.

Puget Sound Energy’s Dorothy Bracken says her utility’s hardest-hit area is Kitsap County, west of Seattle, where “thousands” have lost electricity. She says it’s difficult to be more precise because as crews restore some customers, others lose power.

As of 8:30 p.m. Monday, the utility had 200 different locations where crews had to go to restore power. Puget Sound Energy reports scattered outages elsewhere in Western Washington.

Winds are blamed for an outage affecting 9,200 Tacoma Power customers. Nearby, Peninsula Light crews worked to restore power to about 3,500.

By 9 p.m., Seattle reported 22 degrees with winds gusting to 33 mph while Tacoma was at 23 degrees. In northwest Washington, Bellingham was at 21 degrees with winds gusting to 53 mph.

In Eastern Washington, Spokane was at 12 degrees with 15 mph winds.
