EDINBURG, Texas (AP) — Mike James scored 16 points and made a 3-pointer with 24 seconds remaining to lift Lamar past Texas-Pan American 85-82 Tuesday night.

James’ late basket gave the Cardinals (3-2) an 84-78 lead. The closest the Broncs came after that was 84-82 after Aaron Urbanus made a 3-pointer with 9 seconds remaining, but Kendrick Harris made a free throw for Lamar for the final margin. Urbanus missed on a 3-point try as time expired.

Charlie Harper led the Cardinals with 18 points and six rebounds. Perry Petty led Texas-Pan American (1-5) with 21 points and eight rebounds. Matt Mierzycki added 14, and Urbanus and Jared Maree had 11 each.

The Broncs shot 50 percent from the field (30-for-60), but went just 11-for-23 from the free-throw line.
