Buckner leads Georgia State past Utah Valley 69-56

ATLANTA (AP) — Eric Buckner scored 15 points and Brandon McGee and Marques Johnson added 12 points each as Georgia State won its second straight with a 69-56 victory over Utah Valley on Tuesday night.

Buckner, a 6-foot-10 junior college transfer, also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots to lead the Panthers (2-1). It’s the second year in a row that GSU has defeated the Wolverines (0-3).

Holton Hunsaker led Utah Valley with 12 points.

With the Panthers holding a single-digit lead with 7 minutes to go, freshman Devonta White, who finished with 10 points, nailed a 3-pointer . Then Buckner completed a three-point play that put Georgia State ahead, 58-48, with 6:35 to play. The Panthers maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Georgia State forced 20 Utah Valley turnovers and outrebounded the Wolverines, 36-25, including 16 on the offensive glass.
