CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — The Corvallis City Hall is about to close for six months for a $1.1 million seismic upgrade.

Corvallis officials said City Hall will close at noon Dec. 10 to allow for construction work that will improve readiness for an earthquake.

Originally constructed in 1924 as a church, the Corvallis City Hall is a wood-framed building with unreinforced concrete block and brick exterior walls.

City services will resume at noon on Dec. 13 when staff moves to the recently vacated CH2M Hill office building. Staff expects to return to City Hall after the project is completed in July 2011.
