Murray leads La Salle past Providence 84-73

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — Aaric Murray scored 20 points to lead four players in double figures and La Salle defeated Providence 84-73 on Tuesday night.

Earl Pettis added 18 points and Ruben Guillandeaux and Jerrell Williams chipped in 13 each for the Explorers (4-1) in a Cancun Challenge matchup.

Williams also had 13 rebounds as La Salle won the battle of the boards 59-31.

Rebounds came easier to the Explorers as Providence (4-1) shot 34.8 percent from the field (23 of 66), including 8 of 32 from 3-point range (25 percent).

La Salle shot 50 percent from the field (32 of 64) and made 5 of 10 from long range.

The Friars were led by Marshon Brooks with 20 points. Vincent Council added 17 and Gerard Coleman had 12 for Providence.

The Explorers have now won three straight, while the Friars’ four-game winning streak was snapped.
