BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — A Western Washington University spokesman says a sprinkler pipe that burst in frigid temperatures has damaged offices in the Bellingham, Wash., school’s Old Main building.
Facilities management director Tim Wynn tells the Bellingham Herald that the pipe burst Tuesday night in the ceiling above the fifth floor, causing water damage to offices on four floors.
Wynn says 20 to 30 rooms and offices were significantly damaged, including the offices of the president and provost, the counseling center, financial aid office and faculty senate offices.
Crews worked Wednesday to open walls and rip up carpet. Wynn estimates it will take two to four weeks to fix it all but says crews will work to make sure people can return to work Monday.
