Washington State University Vancouver will formally be recognized as a veteran-friendly campus and as a new partner with the Washington State Department of Veteran Affairs at a Tuesday ceremony.

Free and open to the public, the event is at 1 p.m. in the Firstenburg Student Commons.

Mike Gregoire, husband of Gov. Chris Gregoire, will sign a special Memorandum of Understanding, as will John Lee, director of the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs, and Hal Dengerink, WSUV chancellor.

The memorandum should help WSUV raise awareness of veterans programs on and off campus, employ policies to build social support and promote a welcoming environment.

The partnership will ensure that WSUV student veterans gain access to the Department of Veteran Affairs for a review of individual needs and potential benefits, and get help obtaining benefits and care.

WSUV is at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Avenue.
