IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Freshman Zach McCabe scored 16 points, Eric May added 13 points and seven steals and Iowa blew past SIU-Edwardsville 111-50 Friday night for its most lopsided win in 44 years.

Melsahn Basabe added 13 points for the Hawkeyes (3-3), who jumped ahead by 25 points midway through the first half and cruised from there in moving back to .500

Iowa was playing without sophomore point guard Cully Payne. Coach Fran McCaffery said Friday that Payne will miss 6-8 weeks with a hernia.

The Hawkeyes overwhelmed the Cougars (1-5) with a spectacular first half and led 53-20 by the break.

The win was Iowa’s biggest since it beat Pepperdine 111-50 in 1966.

Cornelius Chatt had eight points and four assists for SIU-Edwardsville, which has yet to beat a Division I team this season.
