MADRID (AP) — Louis Vuitton is returning to sponsor the America’s Cup challengers series for the 34th edition in 2013.
Louis Vuitton had pulled out after the 32nd edition of the sailing classic after disagreeing with the direction winner Alinghi was taking the event. America’s Cup organizers announced the Paris-based fashion house’s return Saturday.
Louis Vuitton has been sponsoring the challenger series since 1983. Only twice were there no challenger series in that span, including earlier this year when BMW Oracle Racing beat Alinghi in a best-of-three series in the 33rd edition.
The winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup wins the right to sail against American syndicate BMW Oracle Racing.
