Rhode Island defeats Davidson 71-58

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — Delroy James and Akeem Richmond scored 15 points each to lead Rhode Island to a 71-58 victory over Davidson on Saturday.

James added nine rebounds and the Rams (5-2) used a 13-0 second-half run to take control for their second consecutive victory.

Davidson (2-3), which has played all five games on the road, led 42-41 with 15:48 remaining, but James hit a layup and Rhode Island scored the next 11 points for a 54-42 lead with 10:42 left.

James scored six of the Rams’ points in the run.

Richmond’s jumper gave Rhode Island a 60-46 lead with 7:11 left.

The Rams shot 85.7 percent on 3-pointers (6 of 7) in the first half, but shot 16.7 percent (1 of 6) in the second.

Ben Eaves added 11 points for Rhode Island.

JP Kuhlman scored 21 points, Jordan Downing had 12 and Jake Cohen added 11 points for Davidson, which shot 23.8 percent (5 of 21) from the 3-point line.
