East Carolina blows out UNC-Greensboro 81-53

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Darrius Morrow scored 21 points and East Carolina shot 26 of 48 from the floor (54.2 percent) en route to an 81-53 blowout victory over North Carolina-Greensboro on Saturday.

The Pirates (5-2) jumped out to a 37-24 lead at halftime and increased their advantage in the second half thanks to 15-of-24 shooting (62.5 percent) and a 22-6 scoring edge in the paint.

The Spartans (0-4) pulled within 56-45 with 11:33 remaining, but a 17-4 run extended East Carolina’s lead to 73-49 with 4:25 left to play.

East Carolina outrebounded the Spartans 41-25 and shot 8 for 16 from 3-point range (50 percent). Corvonn Gaines led the Pirates with seven assists as East Carolina registered 21 assists on 26 field goals.

Jontae Sherrod came off the bench for the Pirates to score 17 points and grab six rebounds.

Korey Van Dussen led the way for UNC-Greensboro with 13 points.
