JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas State football coach Steve Roberts has resigned after back-to-back 4-8 seasons.
Athletic director Dean Lee said Monday the school had reached a financial settlement with Roberts, who was 45-63 in nine seasons at the school.
Roberts led the Red Wolves to the 2005 Sun Belt Conference championship and New Orleans Bowl. He also led the school to its first win over a BCS Conference school when it defeated Texas A&M in 2008, finishing 6-6 that season.
However, the Red Wolves fell to sixth in the Sun Belt last season at 3-5 and were fourth in the conference this season after a 31-24 loss at Florida International on Saturday.
Roberts’ 41 wins were the most for the program over an eight-year stretch since 1985-92, and Arkansas State was bowl eligible three of the past five years entering this season.
