BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) — The historic Baker County Courthouse in Baker City was closed temporarily after a valve on a water pipe failed during the weekend, causing extensive water damage in the 101-year-old building.

The Baker City Herald reported it was not clear whether the valve froze, or simply failed.

The temperature plummeted to 9 below zero last week in Baker City, with the lowest temperature from Friday through Sunday about 9 degrees.

The damage includes drenched carpets, ceiling tiles, books and paper records.
