MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — Officials in Mount Vernon, Washington, are trying to find what caused a water main to break and leak more than 1.5 million gallons in a city neighborhood.

The Skagit Valley Herald says it took Skagit Public Utility District crews several hours before they could stop the leak early Saturday morning. The break in the 10-inch main flooded several homes, leaving them without water, septic systems or heat. Residents are still trying to clean up the mess.
