Wenatchee-area man hopes home lasts 500 years

WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — Jon Pobst is a fourth-generation resident of Plain, a village east of Lake Wenatchee where he’s building a home using massive wood timbers.

He told The Wenatchee World he wants a home that celebrates the family heritage and one that he hopes will last 500 years.

Pobst is a wooden boat builder and partner in a company in France that builds and restores boats. It was a house in Germany that inspired him to build a long-lasting home on his own 27 acres.

He’s using his woodworking skills to join big pieces of wood tightly together. All the lumber for the two-story, three-bedroom house was milled last year from 28 Douglas fir trees cut on the property.
