Dogs, cats, and even a snail are blessd in Salem

The Columbian
Published:

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Dogs, cats and even a snail lined up at a Salem church Sunday for the annual blessing of animals.

The Salem Statesman Journals reports that Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church participated in the yearly tradition that celebrates Saint Francis of Assisi, the 13th century friar known for his love of animals.

Rev. Jim Young joked the church was a zoo — literally.
