INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Rigoletta passed heavy favorite Tell a Kelly down the stretch for a half-length victory Sunday in the $250,00 Oak Leaf Stakes, earning a spot in the Breeders’ Cup.
Tell a Kelly appeared poised for a victory as she moved up to second behind Indian Gracey, coming out of the stretch, but Rigoletta and jockey David Flores came from third for the upset win in the race for 2-year-old fillies. She covered 1 1-16 miles in 1:44.03.
With the win, her second in four starts, the Florida-bred filly trained by Dan Hendricks earned an instant spot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5.
