PUYALLUP, Wash. (AP) — A Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman says a man shot by a Puyallup police officer is expected to survive.

Spokesman Ed Troyer says the suspect was shot in a confrontation Tuesday night after a chase that began when officers closed in on a suspected drug deal in the parking lot at South Hill Mall.

The suspect sped away and tried to ram a patrol car when he was pulled over. The suspect ran and was chased by an officer into woods where the shooting took place.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the shooting.
