LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) — A federally protected wolf has been killed in northeastern Oregon.
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife wolf coordinator Russ Morgan confirmed Tuesday a wolf carrying a radio collar from the Wenaha pack had been killed.
Morgan says it is the same 2-year-old male that was captured and fitted with a radio tracking collar in August.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is investigating. They have jurisdiction over wolves in Oregon since their endangered species status was restored recently by court order.
Wolves have been moving into Oregon from Idaho, where they were reintroduced as part of a federal project to get them off the endangered species list.
