MOSES LAKE, Wash. (AP) — The bomb scare that closed a school in Moses Lake for the day was a hoax.

An investigator told the Columbia Basin Herald it was road flares taped together.

The Grant County sheriff’s office says a call early Tuesday led officers to find the suspicious item under playground equipment at Larson Heights Elementary School. The district decided to close the school for the day.

A Richland police bomb squad determined the bomb threat was a hoax.
