ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson has reclaimed the starting job he had last year in what’s suddenly a much less crowded backfield.
Jackson revealed the new rotation before practice on Wednesday, a day after the team traded Marshawn Lynch to Seattle.
Jackson says he was informed by coaches that he will get the bulk of the carries as the Bills (0-4) prepare to host Jacksonville (2-2) on Sunday. For Jackson, he jumps from third on the depth chart to first, a year after leading the team with a career-best 1,062 yards rushing.
In his first opportunity to discuss the trade, coach Chan Gailey said three running backs proved to be a crowd. Gailey added the move also allows him to provide rookie C.J. Spiller more playing time.
