LONDON (AP) — London’s Olympic Park will be renamed the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park after the 2012 Summer Games.

Government sports minister Jeremy Hunt says the name was chosen because “there is no more durable institution in this country than the monarchy.”

London Mayor Boris Johnson says the park in the east of the city will feature 11,000 homes, 40 percent of which will be suitable for families.

Johnson says the design of the homes to be built around the athletes’ village is inspired by the 18th century Georgian developments in areas of central London.
