ZURICH (AP) — FIFA has temporarily lifted Nigeria’s suspension from international soccer, allowing its African Cup of Nations qualifier to be played Sunday.
Nigerian federation official Musa Amadu tells The Associated Press that Nigeria will travel to Guinea for the game following FIFA’s “magnanimous” decision.
The game was postponed this week after FIFA imposed the suspension Monday. FIFA said the Nigerian federation’s independence was compromised by government interference, prompting legal action by the National Association of Nigerian Footballers.
FIFA lifted the suspension until Oct. 26 — the day after a court hearing where the players have promised to drop their case.
