Southeastern Louisiana beats Texas State 49-24

HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Tyler Beatty threw for 368 yards and five touchdowns as Southeastern Louisiana beat Texas State 49-24 in the Southland Conference opener on Saturday.

Beatty threw touchdown passes of 28, 20 and 13 yards in the second quarter as the Lions (2-3, 1-0) took a 28-21 halftime lead over the Bobcats (3-2, 0-1).

On the Lions first possession of the second half, Beatty hooked up with Simmie Yarborough on a 28-yard touchdown pass to increase their lead to 35-21.

Beatty’s fifth touchdown pass came with 11:54 left in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard throw to Zeke Jones to give the Lions a 49-24 lead.

Yarborough finished with 114 receiving yards and three TD receptions for the Lions while Jones added a 2-yard rushing touchdown for the first score of the game for Southeastern Louisiana.

Tyler Arndt threw three interceptions for Texas State in the loss.
