BEIJING (AP) — Top-seeded Novak Djokovic beat David Ferrer of Spain 6-2, 6-4 on Monday to defend his China Open title.

No. 8 seed Ferrer sought to step up his game in the second set of the match, which was rained out Sunday, but Djokovic proved too much. The Serbian converted four of six break points while being broken only once to wrap up the match in 1 hour, 24 minutes.

Djokovic improved his record against Ferrer to 5-4.

On the women’s side, new world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki will play No. 3 Vera Zvonareva later Monday.

Zvonareva has won three of their previous five matchups.
