STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State forward Sasa Borovnjak will miss this season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The team said Monday the injury occurred without any contact during a team workout last week. Preseason practice officially begins Friday.

The 6-foot-9 Borovnjak (BOE-rav-nah-jack) played 18 games last season as a freshman, averaging 6.8 minutes and 1.8 points. He was expected to play a more prominent role off the bench as a sophomore.

The injury leaves the Nittany Lions with just two reserves taller than 6-7 behind the starting front line of seniors Andrew Jones, Jeff Brooks and David Jackson.

Penn State is trying to rebound from an 11-20 season.
