Oregon National Guard members deploying to Iraq

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Eight Oregon Army National Guard members from Salem are being mobilized for deployment to Iraq.

The Oregonian reports the four pilots, three crew members and one supply sergeant with Alpha Company, 641 Aviation operate the C-23 Sherpa military transport plane.

A larger unit, 600 Oregon Army National Guard members now training in Mississippi, will deploy next month to Iraq. The La Grande-based 3rd Battalion, 116th Cavalry members will protect convoys.
