PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A North Portland factory making silicon wafers for the solar industry expects it will add 50 jobs as it expands its production capacity.

MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. took over the plant earlier this year. The Portland operation employs about 80 people.

Company managers told The Oregonian they plan to go from 60 megawatts in annual production capacity to about 300 megawatts next year. They announced their expansion plans at a Los Angeles trade show on Friday.
