Florida A&M shuts out Savannah State 31-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Phil Silvester rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns as Florida A&M shut out Savannah State 31-0 on Saturday.

Silvester had 18 carries for the Rattlers, who dominated the ground game with 327 rushing yards. He had touchdown runs of 69 yards on Florida A&M’s first play from scrimmage and 5 yards with 7:47 left in the third quarter.

After an open week, the Rattlers (3-3) amassed 395 yards total offense while holding the Tigers (0-7) to 164, including just 36 yards passing. Sheldon Barnes gained 109 yards on 14 carries for Savannah State.

Antonio Lawrence scored on a 58-yard touchdown run on Florida A&M’s first offensive play of the second half. Lavante Page added an 11-yard score to cap a 12-play, 66-yard drive with 13:31 remaining.

The loss was the ninth straight for the Tigers, including the last two games of the 2009 season, and their first shutout of 2010.
