HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (AP) — A group of recreational players in Nova Scotia has abandoned its attempt to set a world record for the longest soccer game.
A steady downpour made conditions too dangerous after about 17 hours of play. The Guinness World Record of more than 42 hours was set in Qatar this year.
One of the participants, Scott Lytle, says five players were injured and it became clear it was to risky to continue.
The game was played to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Lytle says the event appears to have exceeded its goal of raising $20,000.
