OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington Transportation Commission is proposing a 2.5 percent general increase in ferry fares next year.

The commission said Wednesday the proposal was developed with the state ferries division and an advisory committee of ferry riders.

The proposal also calls for an extra 2 percent increase and other pricing changes in the San Juan Island route.

The commission will hold a public meeting on the changes Nov. 4 on the ferry leaving Friday Harbor at 11:35 a.m.

The changes would take effect in January.
