SEATTLE (AP) — A deck hand on King County’s water taxi has been honored by the Coast Guard for saving a man who tried to commit suicide by jumping into Seattle’s Elliott Bay.

The Seattle Times says 43-year-old Frank Massaro, of Shoreline, doesn’t think he did anything special in the July rescue, but just did what needed to be done.

The Coast Guard awarded Massaro a public-service commendation on Tuesday.

Officials say Massaro, wearing a life jacket, jumped in the cold water near Seattle’s Pier 50 and pulled the man from beneath a dock and into a fire department rescue boat.
