PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The family of a U.S. Marine from Oregon killed in Afghanistan says he always had strong ties to home but loved to explore.
Sgt. Ian Tawney died last Saturday when an improvised explosive device blew up during combat operations in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan.
The 25-year-old Tawney grew up in Dallas, Ore., and joined the Marines five years ago.
