SAN DIEGO (AP) — The NFL says San Diego Chargers linebacker Antwan Barnes has been fined $5,000 for unnecessarily striking St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford in the chest and neck.

Barnes was whistled for roughing the passer on the play in Sunday’s game, which came on third-and-goal from the Chargers’ 13. The Rams scored a touchdown two plays later to take a 17-0 lead en route to a 20-17 victory that dropped San Diego to 2-4.

The NFL said Chargers linebacker Kevin Burnett wasn’t fined for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Bradford because the quarterback was scrambling outside the pocket and therefore considered a runner. There was no penalty on that play.
