GLIDE, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy called to a domestic disturbance shot and killed a 49-year-old man in the town of Glide.

The News-Review newspaper reports Roseburg police are investigating. They identified the shooting victim as Kenneth Defrees.

Sgt. Aaron Dunbar says a deputy found Defrees attacking his father and destroying property outside his parents’ home.

Dunbar says Defrees pointed a handgun at the deputy, and the deputy shot and killed Defrees.

The deputy has not been identified. He was put on administrative leave.

Neighbor Bill Roberts says Defrees was very upset, hitting a shed and a travel trailer with a pipe or a hammer and saying over and over, “‘Why.”
