3A GSHL football: Mountain View 58, Hudson’s Bay 0

Sterling Reynolds ran for 100 yards and four touchdowns — in the first half — and the Thunder wasted no time in dispatching Hudson’s Bay at McKenzie Stadium.

The win keeps Mountain View on track for a playoff spot. The Thunder can clinch second place with a win next week over Columbia River. Lose to the Chieftains, and there could be a three-team tie for second place.

The Thunder dominated up front on both offense and defense. They outgained the Eagles 284-2 in net yardage in the first half, and by intermission had 14 first downs to one for the Eagles.

By game’s end — with Mountain View playing reserves for the entire second half — the Thunder finished with 337 total yards. Hudson’s Bay’s net offense was -23 yards.

Reynolds scored on runs of 8, 6, 32, and 7 yards in the first half. P.J. Jones had 81 first-half yards and two touchdowns.

The Thunder also made the most of their special teams to create short fields for their offense. They blocked two punts and had a long punt return by Jones set up their first score. They also recorded a safety as a result of an errant Hudson’s Bay punt snap.

The Thunder opened the second half with a 71-yard, 12-play drive with backup quarterback Grant Corcoran completing two passes along the way. He scored on a 1-yard sneak.

In the fourth quarter, third-string quarterback Luke DuChesne threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Connor Atchison on a third-down play.

Next up: Mountain View (6-2, 4-1) at Columbia River; Hudson’s Bay (1-7, 0-5) vs. Fort Vancouver.
