Lewis’ 52-yard kick gives McNeese State 13-10 win

HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Josh Lewis’ 52-yard field goal on the final play Saturday night gave McNeese State a 13-10 Southland Conference victory over Southeastern Louisiana.

The Cowboys (3-4, 2-1) began at their 3 with 1:51 left after Beau Mothe’s 61-yard punt pinned them there. Andre Anderson ran for two first downs and Cody Stroud another before Stroud’s 13-yard pass to Wes Briscoe set up Lewis at the 35 of the Lions (2-5, 1-2).

Lewis also kicked a 38-yarder to break a 7-7 halftime tie after Kentrell Butler intercepted a Tyler Beatty pass and returned it 58 yards.

Each team punted on its next four possessions, but Mothe’s 65-yarder that was downed at the McNeese 5 swung field position to the Lions. They got a tying 20-yard field goal by Seth Sebastian after starting their next drive at the McNeese 49.

Anderson carried 21 times for 74 yards and scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter.
