SALAMANCA, Spain (AP) — A Salamanca player is recovering in the hospital after going into cardiac arrest during a Spanish league second-division game.

Miguel Garcia took a few steps before collapsing in the 61st minute of Sunday’s game against Real Betis. Medical staff revived the 31-year-old on the field as players and officials watched on, with several of his teammates weeping.

Salamanca says Garcia’s recovery was progressing “favorably” as he undergoes tests at Salamanca’s University Hospital.

In 2008, Sevilla player Antonio Puerta died soon after going into cardiac arrest during a game.
