39th Street overpass set to open next week

Even though it’s paved and striped, the new 39th Street overpass in west Vancouver won’t open until next week.

The $11.6 million overpass, under construction since last year, replaces a bumpy grade-level crossing over seven sets of BNSF Railway tracks. The overpass is wide enough to span a new bypass track paralleling the east edge of the railway’s yard.

The overpass is due to open Nov. 3, after contractors finish installing signs and last-minute landscaping details. It will connect the Lincoln and Fruit Valley neighborhoods.
