LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — An armed robbery suspect was found dead of gunshot wounds after a shootout with a police officer in Longview.

Cowlitz County sheriff’s Chief Criminal Deputy Charlie Rosenzweig told The Daily News of Longview the officer was not hit, although bullets hit a patrol car.

The incident began with the armed robbery of a market about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police chased the suspect’s pickup truck for about three minutes. The chase ended when the truck blew a tire.

Rosenzweig says the suspect came out firing a high-powered rifle at the officer. He returned fire with his service revolver as the suspect fled.

Officers from several agencies searched the area. A Longview police dog found the suspect dead, about 100 yards from his truck.
